The objective of an internship is to provide Bethune Cookman University Bob Billingslea School of Hospitality (BBSHM) students with an opportunity to enhance their academic preparation through practical, hands-on experience. An internship seeks to offer students the opportunity for professional growth within an organization through the completion of challenging and meaningful work. Students gain valuable experience that translates to high marketability upon graduation. Employers gain valuable input into their organization.

Employment shall consist of a minimum of 798 hours of hospitality [related work] experience divided into two segments of  Internship I, 266 hours, ( 1 credit) : The Internship Program is designed to serve as a mechanism for undergraduates majoring in Hospitality Management to integrate classroom theory with practical knowledge gained from a carefully monitored, field-based learning experience in a professional setting (Hospitality Sectors) and to earn academic credit, and Internship II, 532 hours, (2 credit ): This course allows the student to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at The School of Hospitality Management in a supervised practice environment. The student performs managerial functions in an appropriate hospitality establishment approved by the instructor.  A total of 3 credit hours internship work experience in the hospitality or directly supporting services in the following sectors:

  • Lodging (hotels, resorts, inns, motels, bed & breakfasts, etc)
  • Food & Beverage (restaurants, bars, clubs, institutional foodservice, etc.)
  • Transportation (airlines, car rental firms, rail, cruise ship, boat or ferry, etc.)
  • Events/Recreation (theme parks, national parks, ski areas, golf courses, marinas,
    sports arenas, entertainment companies etc.)
  • Private Clubs (country, yacht, residential, etc.)
