Bethune-Cookman University Named a 2018 Military Friendly® School
B-CU Selected by Victory Media as a Dedicated Resource for Military Student Success
For the third consecutive year, Bethune-Cookman University was selected as a Military Friendly® School by Victory Media, the leader in successfully connecting the military and civilian worlds, and publisher of G.I. Jobs®, STEM JobsSM and Military Spouse. The Military Friendly® Schools designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, community colleges and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students. Military Friendly® Schools dedicate resources to ensure students’ success, both in the classroom and after graduation.
For the past year, B-CU has worked on numerous military academic initiatives such as: GEM, FLYCA; DANTES/DSST, Minuteman Scholarship, Military Training Credits, and more, to enhance opportunities for students in the military to attend college. B-CU has enrolled over 160 military students on campus and online. For the fall 2017 semester, three students were selected to receive the Minuteman Scholarship, totaling more than $250K covering four years of full tuition and fees or $10,000 for room and board at colleges and universities served by an Army ROTC program, a yearly book allowance, and a monthly stipend. Through these opportunities, students experience working with an Army Reserve unit while earning additional money for their service.
The methodology used for making the Military Friendly® Schools list has changed the student veteran landscape to one much more transparent, and has played a significant role over the past seven years in capturing and advancing best practices to support military students across the country.
