B-CU’s Global Online College Receives High Markings from the United States Distance Learning Association Annual Review

Bethune-Cookman University’s Distance Learning and Online Program has been recertified by the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) with no recommendations. The USDLA spoke highly of the progress made to ensure the B-CU Global Online College met the standards of a quality program. “The certification team was extremely impressed with the strides the president, vice-presidents, deans, administrators, faculty and staff of the University have made in addressing the Self-Study recommendations,” said USDLA Executive Director, Dr. John Flores. B-CU has the first USDLA certified program in the State of Florida and is the second HBCU in the nation to be certified.

Highlights from B-CU’s Global Online College assessment included:

· Establishment of a B-CU Global Online College structure with a Chief Online Learning Officer (COLO)

· Commitment of University leadership to the Distance Learning / Online Programs

· B-CU’s attainment of Bahamas NAECOB accreditation

· Implementation of the Student Rating Instruction (SRI) Survey

Dr. Arletha McSwain, Dean of the Global Online College, was thrilled for the news. “B-CU Global Online College will continue to do our part so that we can contribute toward the best 2017-2018 academic year in the history of the University,” she said. The USDLA certification team also emphasized the University as a role model for other colleges and universities. “The University’s commitment to collaboration and excellence was highlighted by Dr. Gayle’s role as Chief Online Officer and the focus on providing data to guide improvement aligned with the University’s Key Performance Indicators.”

The USDLA’s goals are to: inform and protect the students; provide a framework for improvement; and assist with continued growth. The USDLA certification is awarded for five years and is subject to performance and annual review.
