B-CU Global Online College Continues to Lead in Online Education and Rank Highly Among HBCUs
Bethune-Cookman University is ranked as the fifth best Historically Black College and University out of 104 colleges with online degree programs according to Online College Plan.
The top 20 HBCUs on the list has an aggregated score recorded which is an indicator of how it performs as a provider of a high-caliber and flexible education. The scoring system is based on how many programs are available online, how flexible these programs are and how rigorous they are based on data collected from NCES and each individual school’s website. Online College Plan also consulted our own ranking of the top 100 best online colleges for this ranking of the top 20 HBCU colleges.
Through his exemplary efforts to further progress in online learning for the University, Interim President Hubert L. Grimes was most recently selected to serve as an Ambassador for the HBCU Affordable Learning Solutions Summit at the 2019 Online Learning Consortium International Conference held in Denver, Colorado from April 3, 2019-April 5, 2019.
The HBCU Affordable Learning Solutions Leadership Committee has identified Interim President Grimes as a leader in higher education who supports this very important initiative through efforts at Bethune Cookman University. This past semester, Interim President Grimes served as the keynote for the inaugural HBCU Forum Focusing on Open Education Resources (OER)-Affordable Learning Solutions (AL$) and has supported the Title III Initiative that provided stipends for 39
Additionally, Dean of B-CU Global Online College Dr. Arletha McSwain has been selected to serve on the Executive Leadership Group for the planning and execution of the Hewlett Diversity Equity and Inclusion grant. The purpose of the grant is to assist HBCUs in developing, implementing and sharing successful strategies to significantly reduce the cost of course materials by providing
Bethune-Cookman University continues to be a member of the Florida SARA (State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement). Florida became a SARA state in 2017 after legislation was signed to create the Postsecondary Reciprocal Distance Education Coordinating Council. The role of the Council is to provide oversight and guidance to postsecondary institutions in the State of Florida that elect to follow the national standards for interstate offering of postsecondary distance education courses and programs. FL-SARA facilitates the delivery of distance education by Florida institutions and ensures consistent consumer protection practices for students engaged in distance learning activities.
