Nursing Students Successfully Complete ATI Exam

Congratulations to nursing students Brandy Andrews, Alexus Bennett, Adisle Garcia, Tamera Hawkins, Branden Lewis, Rakaya Neely, and Pia West for successfully completing the Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) exam.

Nursing Student ATI exams are required for progression in each course in the nursing curriculum, as well as for graduation from the nursing program. The exams are designed to assess student knowledge, understanding, and grasp of essential nursing core concepts. The exam is a tool used in the prediction of student success in the program and on the National Council Licensure Exam-RN (NCLEX-RN). These seven students achieved a prediction score of 99% for success on the NCLEX-RN.

The students completed an eight-week boot-camp style review course that included lecture content, weekly testing, and mandatory participation in faculty-led structured learning environments. The students are now eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam.

“I am delighted that our students, through their hard work and dedication, have demonstrated success on the Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) examination. Congratulations to the students and faculty for their commitment to excellence and to Dr. Sandra K. Tucker for her leadership. The University celebrates the great news with the School of Nursing,” said Senior Vice President/Provost Dr. Helena Walrond.

A pinning ceremony will be held in their honor on Thursday, May 9, 2019, in the Gertrude Heyn Memorial Chapel. The ceremony is a symbolic welcoming of newly-graduated nursing students into the nursing profession. It symbolizes the transition from student to professional nurse.
